Another thought.
As people, we want to believe so much that we have some semblance of control. We learn all these theories and laws in school that are supposed to govern the way things work in this world. We just want to believe that there is an absolute reality in everything. But I pose a question. What if God decided to change the laws of nature? Wouldn’t that change our reality and understanding of truth?
He’s done it before. As a sign to King Hezekiah, God made a shadow go back 10 steps. That’s physically impossible, the rotation of the earth would have to stop and turn the other way. If the earth stops rotating, we would all be floating around. What about when God listened to Joshua’s prayer to keep the sun in the sky longer so that he could completely destroy the Amorites? In that instant, the truths that governed nature were changed.
There is a promise in the Bible, Jesus is the same yesterday, today and in the future. He is unchanging. He is the one absolute. That’s why truth is found in encountering the Man who said He is Truth. In the end, we could go off on many philosophical trails and hypothetical circles.. that’s not the point I want to make, but share this ‘The Matrix’-like revelation. Being so sure that we are absolutely right in the end pales to the question of whether we know Him. If we love Him, do we keep His commandments?
